- October 1 - EPCOT Center opens. Now known simply as Epcot, the park is created to celebrate technology, innovation, and internationality, as represented by its two primary lands, Future World and the World Showcase.
- Disney ends the A-E ticket system used for ride admission.
- The Fantasyland Theater (opened 1955) is closed at Disneyland Park to be later replaced with Pinocchio's Daring Journey.
