Aladar the Iguanodon is the protagonist of the Disney film Dinosaur (2000), and a central character in the attraction DINOSAUR.
History[]
Background[]
Origins[]
Aladar is an iguanodon born in the late Cretaceous, whose egg was misplaced causing him to be raised by lemurs. When Aladar became an adult, it was early into the K-T mass extinction event and he migrated alongside other dinosaurs, eventually finding his way to what is now modern Florida.
Dino Institute[]
At one point, Aladar was tagged with a trans-dimensional tracking-device by scientist Dr. Grant Seeker on an unauthorized mission for the Dino Institute. Seeker planned on saving Aladar from the meteor impactor for study, doing so by reprogramming a Dino Institute's time rover tour and sending guests on a mission to recover the iguanodon. This time rover found itself pursued by a Floridian Carnosaurus which Aladar lifted a log to help them escape before bringing them all back to modern-day in order to escape the meteor impact.
Dr. Seeker attempted to keep the iguanodon's transport a secret from his employer, Dr. Helen Marsh as Aladar wandered throughout the institute's headquarters in DinoLand, U.S.A., Florida. Some time after this, the iguanodon escaped, possibly being spotted along a nearby river. It is known that Dr. Seeker would search for the dinosaur in the Floridian town of Disney Springs.
Appearances[]
Disney's Animal Kingdom[]
Discovery River Boats[]
An audio-animatronic Aladar appeared on this now defunct boat-ride.
DinoLand, U.S.A.[]
A missing poster for Aladar, made by Dr. Seeker appeared by the Santa Claus meet & greet in 2024.[1] Also here was Dr. Seeker's employee of the month trophy with a golden iguanodon modelled after Aladar.[2]
DINOSAUR[]
Guests search for Aladar on this ride, and appears in the climax where he lifts a log to help guests escape the Carnosaur.
Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail[]
Posted along this Disney Springs trail is a missing-poster for Aladar, drawn by Dr. Seeker and pasted over a Dino Institute poster.[3]
Trivia[]
- The footage played of Aladar roaming the Dino Institute is actually not the original intended effect. The original effect was to have a mirror which showed him in the vehicle with guests (similarly to the Hitchhiking Ghosts) though this effect went unused.
- In the film, the ride's pre-show video and exterior statue, Aladar does not have a beak. Aladar's animatronics on DINOSAUR and Discovery River Boats does have a beak. This is as in real-life, iguanodons had beaks which were removed in the movie Dinosaur to make Aladar more expressive.
