Abraham van Brunt AKA Brom Bones is a character from Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. He appeared in The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949), voiced by Bing Crosby.
History[]
Background[]
Abraham "Brom Bones" van Brunt was town-hero and prankster in the small New York village of Sleepy Hollow. Brom courted town-belle Katrina van Tassel, though this was challenged by womanizing schoolmaster Ichabod Crane who sought after Katrina's inheritance. At a Halloween party, Brom learned Ichabod was paranoid and superstitious, so told him the legend of the Headless Horseman to scare him off. That night, Ichabod happened upon the Horseman (possibly Brom in disguise though it is unclear) and disappeared, leaving Brom to marry Katrina.
Appearances[]
Brom will make rare appearances in the parks.

Trivia[]
- In Gaston's Tavern, there is a Davy Crockett style coonskin cap hanging from a chandelier.[4] This could actually be in reference to Brom Bones who wore a similar hat in his Disney iteration, and who was also an inspiration behind Gaston.
- Brom Bones' crate identifies him as living at Ma Irving's Boarding House. This tributes author Washington Irving, who wrote the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
