Ye come seekin’ adventure and salty old pirates, eh? Sure, you come to the proper place. But keep a weather eye open, mates, and hold on tight—with both hands, if you please. There be squalls ahead! And Davy Jones waiting for them what don’t obey.
―Captain X[src]

Captain X is a character from Pirates of the Caribbean, voiced and named for imagineer Xavier "X" Atencio.

History[]

Background[]

"Captain X" was a pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy. At some point, he was killed and left as an undead skull with a pair of swords and dark powers. The skull would be spotted in the Dead Man's Cove of Isla Tesoro and in the Blue Bayou of New Orleans. Captain X would be known to have some power over a mysterious waterfall, connecting the present to the past, namely the events of The Wicked Wench ransacking Isla Tesoro for its cursed treasure.

Appearances[]

Disney Pirates Summer[]

Captain X's likeness was used at this 2019 event in Mediterranean Harbor.[1]

Fantasmic![]

The skull appears at the beginning of Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean segment.

The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow[]

The skull floats above Jack Sparrow in this show.

Pirates of the Caribbean[]

In Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean, X appears in the Blue Bayou before guests go down the waterfall. His likeness also appears on a plaque/fountain outside of the attraction. In the Magic Kingdom, he appears within Dead Man's Cove and flashes his eyes red at guests, taking the ride photo before guests go down the waterfall. In Disneyland Paris, he appears once again in Dead Man's Cove albeit at the very end of the attraction, after Jack claimed the Wicked Wench's treasure. In Tokyo Disneyland, his likeness appears outside of the main building.

Treasure Cove[]

Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure[]

Captain X communicates to guests before they enter the caves.

Siren's Revenge[]

A wooden skull resembling that of Captain X (albeit without a jaw) appears on the sign by the entrance.

Trivia[]

  • Captain X was first given his name in Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, in tribute to his voice actor X Atencio. Before this, he was just known as, "The Talking Skull".
  • Some of Captain Jack Sparrow's accessories decorate the captain's bandana in Disneyland. This includes his Piece of Eight, an item which determined him as Pirate Lord of the Caribbean for the Brethren Court.
