The Five Bear Rugs are a group of characters from the Country Bear Jamboree.
Description[]
The Five Bear Rugs are a hillbilly country-band made up of anthropomorphic bears. They were part of the Country Bear Jamboree in Grizzly Hall.
Members[]
- Zeke: The leader of the Five Bear Rugs, and only member capable of reading. He wears a top hat and a pair of glasses. It is said that he is the only one in the band who can read music. He strums a banjo and bangs on a dishpan.
- Zeb: He is a bear with a bandana around his neck, brown fur and a light brown chest. He plays a fiddle and has a fur-model wife who models at a boutique near Grizzly Hall. With this wife, Zeb has a son named, "Little Oscar".
- Ted: Ted, also known as "Brother Ted" is a tall skinny brown bear that plays a corn jug and a washboard.
- Fred: The biggest member of the band who is a married bear that, ironically, plays the smallest instrument, which is a harmonica. Fred picked up playing the mouth-harp from his father.
- Tennessee: A brown bear that plays a unique instrument, called the one-stringed "Thang". He also wears a red bandana (or blue in Disneyland). He hopes to acquire more strings for his Thang some day.
- Little Oscar: He is Zeb's small bear cub that's a part of the band, but does not play any instrument. Little Oscar accompanies the band while his mother is modelling her fur-coat. He doesn’t talk much either (with the exception of the Vacation Hoedown, in which he mumbles "uh-huh" at point). He is always seen holding his own teddy bear, which he squeezes several times during the show, and is the son of Zeb.
History[]
Background[]
The Five Bear Rugs are a group of bears who met in first-grade and began playing music together. The group was held back for years while continuing to play music, only progressing to the fourth grade after fifteen years.
On the October 6 of an unidentified year, the Five Bear Rugs did a one night only special performance in Grizzlyville. Their Grizzlyville performance was seemingly recorded on a record by "Grizzly Gulch Records".
The group joined the Country Bear Jamboree where they co-wrote the opening song with Master-of-Ceremonies, Henry.
Appearances[]
Country Bear Jamboree[]
The Country Bears are part of this show.
Hungry Bear Restaurant[]
Their likeness is painted over a shelf inside the restaurant.[1]
Splash Mountain[]
A washboard found near the end of the Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain was labelled as coming from Brother Ted.[2]
Trivia[]
- Brother Ted might be referenced in the Critter Co-op, where there is a jug labelled "C sharp", similarly to how his jug is labelled "B Flat".
- As of the 2024 Magic Kingdom update, Oscar was given a Teddy Bear of Big Al.
- In the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, the cave and mailbox of Rufus the Bear is visible behind the band. This is a tribute to Disneyland's extinct "Bear Country" which had the Country Bear Jamboree as well as the cave where Rufus could be heard snoring. Some versions of the Country Bear show included Rufus as the Country Bears' technician.
- In the queue for Country Bear Musical Jamboree, there is a record for the Five Bear Rugs from Grizzly Gulch Records. This is a reference to Grizzly Gulch, Hong Kong Disneyland's counterpart to Frontierland.
- In the queue is a letter from the September 29th of 1964, of a young bear named Teddy, saying he was inspired to play on a washboard himself and became a professional musician. This letter was later put on display in Grizzly Hall. This may be an origin for Brother Ted.
