Jaq and Gus were amongst the many mice saved from mouse-traps and the cat Lucifer in the Chateau Tremaine by Lady Tremaine's indentured servant/step-daughter, Cinderella. The two were given names and small clothes sewn by Cinderella.

There is an easter-egg referencing the two in the queue. Amongst horseshoes with names referencing various different horses, there are horseshoes for Jaq & Gus, alluding to how they were temporarily turned into horses.[1]
