Maccus is a character from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006). He was the first-mate of Davy Jones.
History[]
Background[]
Maccus was a sailor who made a faustian bargain with Davy Jones, becoming an enslaved member of Jones' crew aboard The Flying Dutchman. Due to Jones abandoning his purpose of ferrying the souls of those who die at sea, the physical forms of the Dutchman's crew became corrupted, with Maccus transforming into a hammerhead-shark like creature covered in coral, barnacles, and with a lobster growing from his spine.
By the golden age of piracy, Maccus was Davy Jones' first-mate who also had a part in guarding the captain's sunken treasure. When Captain Jack Sparrow sent allies underwater as a distraction, Maccus played into Sparrow's hands while Jones attempted to make-off with the gold. Davy Jones however cursed the gold so that it turned to kelp before Sparrow could spend any of it.
When Davy Jones went to retrieve Sparrow's own debt owed for Jones raising the Black Pearl, Maccus was Jones' right-hand man. When Jack stabbed Jones' heart and made William Turner new captain of the Dutchman, Maccus returned to his normal human form.
