History[]

Background[]

19th century[]

The neighbourhood's, "Disneyland Casting Agency" was established in the year, "'55" (likely 1855) by Walt Disney. In 1863, the emporium was established by Osh Popham, a postmaster, caretaker and shopkeeper from the town of Beulah, Maine.

Prior to his death in 1865, president Abraham Lincoln may have given a speech in the Main Street Opera House.

In 1871, the Main Street Chamber of Commerce was established. In 1886, the Harmony Barber Shop was established and run by the musical, "Dapper Dans". In 1888, Casey's Corner was established, possibly by legendary baseball batter, Casey.

In 1889, a woman named Victoria Maxwell died in a Main Street Hotel and became a ghost, seeking new victims.

In 1892, the 1401 Flower Street emporium was founded.

20th century[]

In 1901, Elias Disney did contract work in Main Street's pavement. In the same year, the Town Square Theater was created.

Main Street could frequently be seen hosting the mysterious and magical nanny, Mary Poppins, as well as her chimneysweep companion Bert. The two and their former affiliates the Banks family were presumably connected to the, "Jolly Holiday Bakery and Cafe" which had items and decor relating to them and their past.

Around 1909, the dog couple Lady and the Tramp were present in the neighbourhood. The two dined at, "Tony's Town Square Restaurant" and left their paw-prints in a heart shape in the pavement outside.

Around the 1920s, the Main Street Cinema frequently showed Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Main Street would be frequented and/or home to Roger & Anita Radcliffe along with their dogs Pongo, Perdita, and 99 Dalmatian puppies (presumably around/after the 1950s). Various of the puppies could be found in the Engine Co. 71 Firehouse, while Pongo was the face of the Main Street Volunteer Fire Department. The family's enemy Cruella de Vil also seemed to have a presence in Main Street, and may have been responsible for the puppies going missing which caused Roger to leave out missing notices for them.[4]

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom[]

The Arthurian sorcerer Merlin (known on Main Street as, "Professor Merlin") used the Main Street fire house to guard the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom. The crystal being a magical orb which protected not only Fantasyland, but other realms such as Main Street, U.S.A., Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Liberty Square and Adventureland. The Greek God of the Underworld, Hades, sought to steal the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom so that he could take over the realm of the Magic Kingdom. Hades sent his unintelligent demonic henchmen Pain & Panic to steal the crystal from the fire-station, only for the two to inadvertently shatter the crystal into many pieces which became scattered across the lands of the Magic Kingdom.

Hades then began recruiting, resurrecting and manipulating different villainous figures from across the lands to assist him in assembling the crystal-shards, causing Merlin to recruit various apprentices within the firehouse to help him to save the realm. Within Main Street, Hades posed as Underworld Crime Boss, "Boss Teal" and noticed Cruella De Vil having her henchmen Horace and Jasper rob house to house on Main Street while trying to track-down Pongo and Perdita's puppies, while threatening to use the pair's skins instead of the dogs if they failed. Hades recruited Cruella to find the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom for him, in return for him promising to give her the Dalmatians for her coat.

Cruella and Hades plotted to steal the crystal shard while under the cover of the Main Street fireworks show. While Merlin was on the trolley pursued by Hades' minions, he had Pongo act as guide for his apprentices in their fight against Cruella. Horace and Jasper also rounded up some of Main Street's dogs to lock up in the stables. The apprentices confronted Jasper at a fireworks storing location where he tried attacking them with fireworks as he discounted them for using illusions and magic-tricks, only to wind up trapped in a barrel and knocked aside. When Pongo attempted to rescue the town's dogs, he was dognapped by her and her henchmen.

While Hades and Cruella made plans to steal the crystal shard, Cruella left Horace to batter the dogs to death with a piece of wood. Horace was stopped by Merlin's apprentices who freed the Dalmatian puppies that subsequently attacked Horace. During the fireworks show, Cruella broke into Merlin's secret vault on Main Street by breaking the wall down with her car. When the apprentices confronted her and she attacked them with bombs. While Cruella was distracted, Pongo replaced the crystal shard with a chew toy and while Cruella was enraged by being outsmarted by dogs, the apprentices attacked her. This ruined Cruella's fur coat and caused her to be trapped in the sewers where Hades found her and became enraged.

Later history[]

Development history[]

While often attributed to being based on Walt Disney's home-town of Marceline, Missouri, Main Street was modelled off of designer Harper Goff's home-town of Fort Collins, Colorado. Many of the denizens of the town are tributes to real-world imagineers and Disney Legends.
