My name is Maui. Natives call me the Mighty One. I tamed the playful sun, and gave my people time. Now they set their clocks by mine, for I am Tropic Standard Time.
―Maui in the pre-show for Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

Māui often simplified to Maui is a folklore hero from Polynesian mythology. The figure has various depictions in the Disney Parks. Maui was also the deuteragonist of the 2016 Disney film, Moana.

A tapestry of Maui appeared as decoration at the Moana meet & greet area.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort[]

A depiction of Maui is the mascot for this resort, with his likeness found throughout the resort. A wooden sculpture of Maui appears in the main lobby. The old descriptions of Maui found at the resort said:

"The folklore of Polynesia contains no more colourful characters than those of Maui. His exploits are told and retold across the island world, from Hawaii to Bora Bora to New Zealand.

Maui, born of the gods, lived among the people of the South Seas. His Pranks and tricks provided the Islanders with a constant source of new tales… How Maui, with his magic fish hook, pulled the islands of Polynesia from the depths of the sea…And happiest of tale of all, how Maui achieved his greatest feat – capturing the Sun with a specially woven net, refusing to release it until he secured a promise that the Sun would pursue his course across the sky more slowly.  This, of course, means more daylight for all…for all who live in Polynesia.

So now you know why the people of every Polynesian Village remember the mischievous one – the playful god of the people, Maui".

The likeness of Maui from the 2016 film appears in some decorations of the resort. The tiki sculpture of Maui from Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room appears in the greenery outside of the resort.

Trader Sam's Grog Grotto[]

There are props with the Polynesian Village depiction of Maui around this bar. The ceramic mugs for the HippopotoMai-Tai drink, themed to the Hippo Pool from the Jungle Cruise, is made to resemble the head of the Polynesian Village's Maui.
