My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold. There is nothing can console me, but my jolly sailor bold
―The chorus to the mermaids' most commonly used siren song

Mermaids are legendary creatures associated with the ocean who often appear in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Description[]

Mermaids have the upper bodies of human women (with some translucent scales) and lower bodies of fish. They have sharp teeth which they are able to hide as they lure away sailors to drown and eat, often using siren songs to lull them into their traps. The tear of a mermaid could be used in a ritual to access the Fountain of Youth, while a mermaid's kiss supposedly lets one breathe underwater. They were known to inhabit some of the waters in the Caribbean Sea such as Whitecap Bay, the Graveyard of Sunken Ships north of Treasure Cove, and in Dead Man's Cove in the cursed Isla Tesoro.

The plaque outside the building for Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean has the likeness of two mermaids around Captain X. Mermaids inspired by the characters in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides used to make an appearance in the American version of the park, where they could be seen swimming in the water (via projection effect) and heard singing, "Jolly sailor bold". On the beach, a mermaid skeleton was bound in a rowboat nearby a glass coffin like that used to transport the mermaid in the movie. These mermaids were later removed from the attraction, as the effect on the water did not function as intended while the On Stranger Tides film was not well received (though the mermaids' siren song has retained its own following and popularity outside of the film).

Treasure Cove[]

Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Sunken Treasure[]

The mermaids appear in the Graveyard of Lost Ships.

Siren's Revenge[]

The entrance sign has a wooden mermaid on it. The Siren's Revenge itself has a blonde mermaid figurehead.[1]
