Mugsy Toccata or Mugsi Toccata is a character from extinct attraction The Great Movie Ride. The gender of the character varied depending on the performer.
History[]
Background[]
Origins[]
Mugsy Toccata was a mobster during the 1920s/1930s who was active in a crime-infested neighbourhood identified as, "The Underworld", seemingly in the same setting as 1931 pre-code gangster-film The Public Enemy, which took place in 1920s Chicago. Mugsy was known to work with fellow mobsters, "Beans" and, "Squid" and were rivals with fellow mobsters Brains, Legs, and Weasel. Mugsy might have been a character in their own mobster film within the Disney Parks universe.
The Great Movie Ride[]
At some point, Mugsy and their gang held-up a vehicle of tourists, not knowing that said vehicle was travelling through the worlds of various movies. Mugsy held the tour guide at gunpoint with plans to rob all of the tourists, while the tour guide knew Mugsy's name, which when questioned by Mugsy was said to be they had seen their movie before.
This hold-up was interrupted by Brains, Legs and Weasel showing up and firing at the mobsters. The enemies fired at Mugsy's gang and shot Squid. To escape, Mugsy hijacked the tour guide's vehicle and to avoid running through a tunnel with a red-light, shot the red light before proceeding. Mugsy's last words to their gang were, "Sorry boys, I’m making my getaway! Give my regards to the warden, suckers".
Mugsy drove the vehicle into the world of Wild West films such as The Searchers (1956), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and of Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy. Before Mugsy could rob the tourists, they got attacked by the town sheriff who had mistaken Mugsy for the bank robber, "Snake". Mugsy then escaped by driving onto the Nostromo space-ship from Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi horror film Alien (1979), where they narrowly escaped being attacked by the Xenomorph.
After this, Mugsy drove the vehicle into the Well of Souls from Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), where they witnessed Indiana Jones and Sallah Mohammed Faisel el-Kahir excavating the Ark of the Covenant. Here, Mugsy was disturbed by the large amount of snakes and then happened upon a massive jewel called the Treasure of the Gods. Mugsy threatened the tourists to stay where they were and then made off to steal the jewel, where they were warned by a Temple Guardian (actually the tour guide who they hijacked before in disguise) not to touch the treasure. Mugsy disregarded the warning, grabbed the jewel, and was painfully killed then transformed into a skeleton clinging onto the treasure at which point the tour guide regained control of the tour.

Trivia[]
- Mugsy Toccata's name is a hybrid of the crime, "Mugging", and the nickname of historic mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel (1906-1947).
- Mugsy Toccata's character was paid tribute by Disney's rival Universal Studios in Universal's 2023 Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store. In a section of the store themed to a Noir detective story, there was a sign for a, "ONE WAY TUNNEL" next to a pair of traffic lights, one of which had a bullet in it.[1]
- A rarer version of the attraction had a Wild West bandit named Kate Durango or Kid Carson hijack the vehicle.
- Mugsy saying, "Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes?" in the Raiders of the Lost Ark scene referenced Indiana Jones' fear of snakes.
