Olaf is a character from Frozen (2013), inspired by the Snowman (1861) by Hans Christian Andersen.

History[]

Background[]

Origins[]

"Olaf" was the name given to an inanimate snowman created by the Arendelle princesses Anna and Elsa when they were children. When Elsa became queen at 21, she lost control of and then embraced her powers and created Olaf, inadvertently with sentient life and a childlike personality. Olaf developed a desire to experience warmth and summertime, seemingly not realizing that it would melt him.

Olaf came across Anna and her new companions Kristoff and Sven when they were on a quest to get to Elsa. Olaf then joined their party and became a close friend to them.
