- “Okay, let’s review. That is seat, seatbelt, carry-on items, safety strap, fear of heights, keep your hands and arms inside at all times- anything else? Oh yeah, have a nice flight.”
- ―Patrick's safety spiel
Patrick is the host character of Soarin'.
History[]
Background[]
Patrick is chief flight-attendant working for the hang glider airline group, "Soarin'". Patrick notably oversaw flights in Grizzly Peak, California and in the Land Pavilion of EPCOT.
Development history[]
Patrick was originally intended to be named Sandy and portrayed by John Travolta, as an allusion to the musical Grease (1978) which Travolta starred in. Travolta was however decided against due to scheduling issues and the imagineers not wanting the character to have Travolta's beard. After a screening of The Emperor's New Groove, Imagineers found Patrick Warburton's portrayal of Kronk so funny that they hired him instead and named the character for the actor.[1]
Appearances[]
Soarin'[]
Patrick is the host of this attraction, seen in the pre-show and heard while taking off and returning in the hang-gliders.
In the March of 2024, Patrick Warburton made surprise live-appearances as Patrick in the queue for Soarin' at Disney California Adventure.[2]
Trivia[]
- In Soaring: Fantastic Flight, he is replaced by Camellia Falco while in Soaring Over the Horizon he is replaced by an Arbori shaman.
- As host character of Soarin', Patrick replaced the role of Bonnie Appetite and Fud Wrapper in Soarin's predecessors Food Rocks and Kitchen Kabaret.
- For Disney's 100th anniversary, Kronk from the Emperor's New Groove appeared outside of the Land Pavilion on a mural of Disney characters in Epcot. This was a reference to Patrick Warburton.[3]
