The Pelegostos Tribe is a group of characters from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006).
Description[]
The Pelegostos Tribe was a tribe on the Isle of Pelegostos in the Caribbean. The tribe was cannibalistic and traded their cannibalized, "Long Pork" meats with other islands for goods such as spices. The tribe was known to use spears and blow-darts as weapons, and to trap their victims in cages made from bones suspended over cliffs. In the tribe's religion, they worship their chief as a god while believing them to be trapped in human form leading to roasting them alive to cannibalize and set the spirit free.
History[]
Background[]
The Pelegostos Tribe was active in the 18th century. At some point they encountered the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow who managed to convince them that he was their chief. Sparrow's friend the ancient South American magic-user, "Trader Sam" appeared to have been present at said incident.
Jack returned to the island around 1722/1723 to hide from the Kraken while in-debt to Davy Jones. The tribe put Jack back into his position as chieftain while killing half his crew and trapping the rest in bone cages made from their crew-mates. When Will Turner arrived at the island to seek Jack, they captured him and put him with the others where he lead an escape.
When the crew escaped, the pirates Pintel and Ragetti left behind a prison dog from Port Royal which the tribe then made their new chief. Through unknown means, the dog survived the ordeal and reunited with its old master, Captain Teague.
