- “He’s lookin’ for a little more adventure. But he’s headin’ for a little bit of trouble. He’s headin’ for a little bit of danger. Time to be turnin’ around! Hey, Br’er Rabbit, better mend your ways. You’re headed for trouble one of these days. Warnin’ this rabbit, I’m afraid, is a waste, he’s makin’ his way to the Laughing Place.”
- ―Porky Pine
Porky Pine also known as Br'er Porcupine is a character from Splash Mountain.
History[]
Background[]
Porky Pine was a porcupine living in Chick-A-Pin Hill during the 19th century. He was known for using a live turtle to play on as a drum. When Br'er Rabbit decided to leave home and got involved with Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, Porky sang about how the rabbit was getting himself into trouble and that it was time for him to be turning around with musical accompaniment by Br'er Raccoon on harmonica. When Br'er Rabbit returned home, Br'er Raccoon and Porky Pine were amongst those to welcome the rabbit.
Development history[]
Porky Pine's animatronic figure built for America Sings and designed by Marc Davis where it was a drum playing Porcupine in the "Modern times" rock band. The porcupine was amongst the many America Sings animatronics repurposed for Splash Mountain, and was given a turtle to play on the back of instead of drums. The character appeared in different scenes depending on the iteration of the attraction.
