Sally is a character who makes appearances in many of the Disney theme parks.
History[]
Background[]
Origins[]
Sally Finkelstein was a creature created by Doctor Finkelstein, a monstrous mad scientist in the land of Halloween Town. Sally was created from cloths, October leaves, and presumably human corpse matter. Sally was clever and had a knack for sewing and brewing; keeping a small garden within the town's cemetery. Reckless with a desire to experience the outside world, Sally often poisoned Doctor Finkelstein, ran away from her creator to engage at social events, and developed a crush on Halloween Town's "Pumpkin King", Jack Skellington.
The Nightmare Before Christmas[]
Sally was present in the cemetery one year when Jack experienced dread over the same Halloween routine every year, causing Sally to sympathize. When Jack experimented on items from Christmas Town to discover why they brought him a special kind of feeling, Sally snuck out to bring Jack a basket of treats. That night, Sally picked a flower outside of Jack's home which gave her a vision of a Christmas tree burning.
The next day, Jack announced his plan to take over Christmas for a year. Realizing Sally had a vision, she tried to warn Jack only for Jack to not listen and task her with creating his "Sandy Claws" suit. Sally created the suit, but also created a dense fog hoping it would prevent Jack from taking off only for Jack to use his ghost dog Zero to lead the way out. When Sally learned the human military was getting involved to fight off Jack, she hunted down where Lock, Shock and Barrel were keeping the real Santa Claus who Jack told them to keep comfortable.
Sally discovered that Lock, Shock and Barrel brought Santa to their murderous master, Oogie Boogie, who was in the process of torturing Santa. Sally used her dismembered limbs to distract Oogie Boogie while freeing Santa, only to be caught and trapped alongside Santa. Later, Jack found both Santa and Sally, killed Oogie Boogie, and freed them. After this, Santa brought Christmas to Halloween Town while Doctor Finkelstein left Sally for a new creation called "Jewel". Jack found Sally in the cemetery where they admitted feelings for one-another and embraced.
Later history[]
Sally was amongst the Halloween Town residents who travelled with Jack to the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Christmas season. Here, the citizens of Halloween Town brought Christmas to the 999 Happy Haunts of the mansion while Jack reassumed his Sandy Claws persona. Sally would be seen around the mansion, enjoying the festivities.
Appearances[]
Jack and Sally make meet 'n' greet appearances together, particularly during the Halloween season.
Haunted Mansion[]
In the Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion, there is a small doll of Sally in Constance Hatchaway's possession in the attic. In Disneyland's accessibility extended queue, there is a portrait of Sally.
Haunted Mansion Holiday[]
Sally makes multiple appearances in Haunted Mansion Holiday. In the portrait corridor, there is a portrait of her holding a small Christmas tree which then burns to a crisp, alluding to her vision from the film. Sally appears on Madame Leota's tarot card for "Two Passion Potions". A miniature Sally appears in the exit crypt, replacing Little Leota, where she thanks Sandy Claws while watching Jack fly off before the moon. In 2016, an animatronic Sally figure was added to the graveyard with a picnic basket where she yearns over Jack.[1]
Sally makes additional appearances in Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare in Tokyo Disneyland. In the music room, she sits nearby the piano while the Vampire Teddy plays music. In the ballroom, her silhouette is visible kissing Jack under the mistletoe.
