Sam Flynn is the protagonist of TRON: Legacy (2010).

History[]

Background[]

Origins[]

Sam Flynn was son of programmer/video-game designer turned ENCOM CEO Kevin Flynn, and grew up with stories of his father's adventures in the digital world of The Grid. After Sam's mother's death, he was left to be raised by his absentee father and mother's parents before Kevin mysteriously disappeared in 1989. In his 20s, Sam became a reckless thrill-seeker, supported financially by being an ENCOM share-holder.

Tron Legacy[]

In 2010, on the anniversary of Kevin's disappearance, Sam found a digitization laser within his father's old arcade. This brought Sam to the Grid, ruled by an evil digital replica of his father called CLU-2. After being forced to participate in the Light-Cycle races, Sam was saved by the his father's apprentice, the ISO program Quorra whom brought Sam to his father. As it turned out, Kevin became trapped in the Grid years ago by CLU-2 as CLU-2 believed that Kevin abandoned their goals of perfecting the Grid; with CLU-2 also planning on using Kevin's disc to launch an attack on the human world.

Kevin, Sam and Quorra were able to foil CLU-2's evil plans. Kevin sacrificed his life to save Sam and Quorra as the two escaped to the human world. Here, Sam and Quorra became lovers and Sam took his place as leader of ENCOM.

Tomorrowland[]

Sam would begin making portals between the human world and the Grid to better unite the two worlds. This included digitization bases in Shanghai and later one in the original Tomorrowland where guests were known to participate in the ruthless, "Tron Lightcycle Power Run".[1]
