Sarah or Mother is a character from Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress. She has been voiced by Rhoda Williams, Sharon Douglas, Coreen Conolly, and BJ Ward.
History[]
Background[]
Sarah is a member of the family within Tomorrowland's Carousel Theatre. She is the wife of John, and the mother of Patricia and Jimmy. In the early history portions of the Carousel of Progress, she is shown as going through mild misogyny and sexist gender-roles where she has to act like an effective servant, though these are reduced more and more as the history goes on.
In the turn-of-the-century, Sarah was shown doing ironing with an unknown girl; presumably related to her. In the 1920s, she was part of a Ladies Club which assembled a Fourth of July party which she and John attended in costumes of George and Martha Washington in costumes that she sewed. In the 1940s, she struggled to use a paint-mixer machine
In the future/present timeline, Sarah set up the house's voice-activated technologies.
Appearances[]
John and Sarah have made rare live-appearances together in the parks, often having robotic body-movements.[1] In 2010, the two appeared on Main Street, U.S.A., singing a medley of Sherman Brothers songs to honour the two including: It's a Small World, Miracles from Molecules, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger's song, In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room, One Little Spark, the Spectrum Song, and there's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow.[2] John and Sarah appeared live at Disneyland After Dark: Throwback Night.[3][4]

- In the turn-of-the-century scene, Sarah is shown doing laundry alongside a young girl who is never shown as part of the family nor appears in any other part of the attraction. The girl's identity is a mystery.[5]
