This article is about the yeti from Matterhorn Bobsleds. For the yeti from Expedition Everest, see Yeti of the Forbidden Mountain.

The Yeti, also known as the Abominable Snowman or, "Harold the Yeti" is the main-antagonist of the attraction Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Description[]

The Yeti of the Matterhorn is a bipedal creature which inhabits the Matterhorn mountain of the Swiss Alps. It is unknown how many yetis exist, nor how much the creature is of magic or how much it is of science. The lifestyle of the Yeti, and what it eats are not known. It is known that the Yeti is violently territorial of its mountain domain, and will attack perceived intruders while often keeping trophies in its cave.

The yeti is around 6' tall, has blue-skin, and is covered in shaggy white fur. The hands, nose and feet of the Yeti are very similar to those of humans; though its fingers and toes end in sharp claws capable of ripping through metal. The yeti also has very pronounced canine teeth, and has been alleged to have a roar which is 6.9 on the Richter scale; a trait which would make it the loudest yelling animal on Earth.[1] The Yeti also has red eyes which seemingly glow.

The Yeti is a giant territorial hominid which lives in the Matterhorn mountain of the Swiss alps. Throughout the 20th century, the Yeti made attacks on various parties entering its domain; largely consisting of mountain-climbers and bobsled riders. though also including alphorn players, and those passing through the mountain in Skyway buckets. The Yeti is also believed to have been involved in the mysterious, "Wells Expedition" which was active in the mountain at an unknown point of time.

Yetifootprint

On the May 27th of 1978, a, "Matterhorn Expedition" discovered the footprint of the Yeti on the mountain's south slope. A cast was made of this footprint and it was put on display in the village at the foothills of the Matterhorn; though the creature retained its cryptid status. Warnings were posted for locals in the vicinity of the Matterhorn, identifying the Yeti as, "Unknown Wildlife".

By the late 2010s/early 2020s, the body of either Harold or another member of his species seemingly came into the collection of evil alien Taneleer Tivan.

Development history[]

The audio-animatronic figure originally used to depict the Yeti comes from a removed climactic scene of the Jungle Cruise, where Giant Gorillas threatened to attack the boats. The gorillas were removed in 1968 and in 1978 became used to depict the Yeti of Matterhorn Bobsleds; with new appearance designed by Blaine Gibson.[2] In 2015, the original yeti figure was removed and updated with a more fluid and detailed figure, along with a new scene depicting the Yeti's lair in replacement of the glowing crystals scene.

  • The Yeti's lair contains old Matterhorn Bobsleds vehicles, in addition to a Skyway bucket as reference to how the skyway once passed through the Matterhorn.
  • The Yeti footprint's date of discovery is a tribute to when the Yeti was added to the attraction.
  • While the yeti is frequently shown to have human-like feet, the illustration on Matterhorn Trail shows it as having thumbed feet like non-human apes.
