Don Diego de la Vega AKA Zorro is an American pulp character, who has appeared at Frontierland in the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
Don Diego de la Vega comes from El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora Reina de los Angeles sobre El Rio Porciuncula (modern Los Angeles) who studied at university in Madrid, learning to be an expert fencer. In 1820, Diego was summoned back home to America in-order to fight the tyranny of Captain Monasterio. In his hometown, Zorro assumed the innocent and mild-mannered secret-identity of Don Diego de la Vega while acting as the sword-fighting vigilante, "Zorro" at night.
At some point in time, Zorro was active within the mining town of Thunder Mesa. Here, Zorro fought soldiers on the rooftop of the Fuento del Oro restaurante. Due to his influence, Zorro's likeness was included within a mural of the town.
Development history[]
Due to the Disney owned ABC Zorro series, Zorro appeared in the parks from 1958 to 1960 where he was portrayed by Guy Williams who played him in the tv series.
